A new exhibition showcasing the work of recent art academy graduates from across the Netherlands has opened at Galerie Ron Mandos on the Prinsengracht.
The annual show, titled Best of Graduates, features selected works from 26 newly graduated artists, including several who studied and live in Amsterdam.
For many participants, the exhibition serves as their first major exposure in a commercial gallery space following their graduation presentations.
A platform for emerging talent
Curator Lars Been explained that the gallery selects artists based on works that offer fresh perspectives and show strong potential for future artistic development.
Navigating the transition from art school to the professional market remains a significant hurdle for young artists, making early gallery representation a valuable stepping stone.
Among the featured local artists is Filip Maliszewski, a graduate of the city’s Gerrit Rietveld Academie, whose work explores personal identity, his upbringing in Poland, and his integration into the local queer community.
Another local participant, Saskia, is presenting a photography series titled Family Album, which focuses on themes of identity and family dynamics.
Local connections and public viewing
The selection includes artists from various Dutch art institutions, offering visitors a broad overview of themes currently engaging the next generation of creators.
Exhibiting along the busy Prinsengracht gives the participating graduates direct visibility to both local gallery visitors and international passersby.
The Best of Graduates exhibition is open to the public and runs through August 30 at the gallery’s centrum venue.
