A local thrift store on IJburg is focusing exclusively on second-hand goods for young families. Called Petit Circuit, the shop sells pre-loved children’s clothing, footwear, toys, and books for ages up to 12 years old.

The business operates out of a former primary school classroom at Kiekstraat 86, a location it has occupied for the past year after moving from a shorter sublease on the main IJburglaan thoroughfare.

Community focus in a former school

The shop operates on a temporary loan agreement alongside other neighborhood initiatives, including creative workshops, music classes, and a childcare branch. Founder Petit Circuit runs the shop as the sole paid worker, relying on family support and community volunteers to keep operations running.

All items in the shop are donated directly by families living on IJburg and across the broader City of Amsterdam. The selection includes baby rompers, sheets, outerwear, and children’s literature, with most books priced flat at €1.50.

Safety standards for donated goods

Before items reach the shelves, they undergo checking to ensure they meet European consumer standards. The store inspects imported toys for official CE safety labeling and declines clothing or products that fall outside EU guidelines.

Alongside standard stock, the shop maintains discounted bins featuring reduced items starting at 50 cents. Petit Circuit is open to shoppers and donors Wednesday through Saturday from 11:00 to 17:00.
