Archival footage explores the 1980s Wallen underworld at De Balie
Filmmakers Arnold-Jan Scheer and Roy Dames ventured into the Red Light District in the early 1980s, befriending key figures from the penoze who controlled the local streets, cafes, and buildings. With their cameras, they recorded scenes that outsiders rarely saw, resulting in dozens of hours of authentic material. The resulting footage documents a vanished world during the turning point when the rise of hard drugs brought serious crime into the area.
