ABN AMRO is planning to roll out a mandatory office attendance policy for its workforce starting in January 2025. Under the proposed rules, employees will be required to work from the office at least two days per week.
The move marks a notable shift from the flexible hybrid working arrangements that were introduced following the pandemic. Management informed staff of the upcoming changes through an internal announcement, citing the need for better collaboration and team cohesion.
Aligning with broader corporate trends
The proposed policy change brings the Dutch lender in line with several other major financial institutions that have recently rolled back fully remote arrangements. Companies across various sectors have been tightening attendance guidelines to balance flexible working with in-person contact.
The bank’s executive board believes that regular face-to-face interaction is essential for maintaining corporate culture and operational efficiency. The transition will apply to staff across its major locations, including its central offices in Amsterdam.
Consultation process underway
Before the mandatory policy comes into force, the plan must go through the standard internal consultation process. The company’s works council is currently reviewing the proposal, and management will discuss implementation details over the coming months.
While many employees have adapted to working primarily from home, the bank aims to establish a consistent baseline for hybrid work across all departments. Further guidance on specific team schedules and office space management is expected ahead of the rollout next year.
