Weekend closure on A10 West for viaduct construction

A stretch of the A10 West inner ring road closes for the entire weekend to make room for major construction work. The closure runs from Friday 21 August at 22:00 until Monday 24 August at 05:00.

The affected section is the inner ring between the De Nieuwe Meer interchange and the S107 Slotervaart exit.

The connecting roads from the A4 and the A10 Zuid onto the A10 West are shut for the same period, along with entrance ramp 1 at Sloten towards Amsterdam.

Diversions add up to 30 minutes

Traffic is being diverted around the city via the A9 and A5, or via the A10 Oost and A10 Noord. Drivers should count on 10 to 30 minutes of extra travel time.

The inner ring towards the A4 in the direction of Schiphol stays open as normal throughout the weekend.

Diversion routes are marked with yellow signs and shown on the electronic panels above the road. Drivers can also get personal travel advice through the Ask&Go WhatsApp service, and Amsterdam Bereikbaar offers discounts on shared mobility and public transport during the works.

Girders for a new viaduct

The closure lets the Zuidasdok project deliver girders via the A10 West for a new viaduct on the A4 at the De Nieuwe Meer interchange. From mid-2027 the viaduct will form part of a bypass route to the new southern Schinkelbrug.

Zuidasdok is one of the largest infrastructure projects in the Netherlands. It widens the A10 Zuid between the Amstel and De Nieuwe Meer interchanges, moves the motorway underground through the centre of Zuidas and rebuilds Amsterdam Zuid station into a larger transport hub.

More disruption is already on the calendar: on 1 November 2026 Amsterdam Zuid station shifts to the new Brittenpassage for the coming years while the rebuilding continues.
