Darren Kiely blends traditional Irish melodies with indie folk songwriting, finding the common ground between old forms and contemporary arrangement. Club dates suit this kind of work, where the acoustic playing and lyrics have room to register with a listening room. The songwriter from County Cork works in the particular rather than the grand, letting each song find its own pace.
