Work will begin in January 2027 to transform the eastern tip of Zeeburgereiland into a green recreation area along the water. The site, currently an empty expanse of sand and fenced-off asphalt, is scheduled to open as a dune park with an official swimming beach by summer 2027.
The design draws inspiration from natural areas such as the Veluwe and Zuid-Kennemerland National Park. Plans feature sand dunes, grass, trees, sports and play areas, and access points to get onto the water.
Part of a green island border
The city intends the Oostpunt park to form part of a green ring encircling Zeeburgereiland. Other planned sections along the island’s dikes include Sluispark near the Oranjesluizen and Baaipark along Zeeburgerbaai.
Existing local venues Kaap Amsterdam and land sailing spot Wind ‘n Wheels, which operate together as Kaap Oost, will remain integrated into the site until at least the end of 2028.
The long-term future of the site remains subject to change, as Oostpunt is also the preferred location for a permanent tram depot designed to house 54 trams. That facility is expected to be built between 2030 and 2035.
