Theater De Krakeling and TOBAL have co-produced a new family performance titled Samar en de bange koning.
The comedic, magical-realist show follows an anxious ruler who fears everything unfamiliar, including imaginary approaching elephants, and imposes bizarre rules and signs on his people to keep danger out.
A character named Samar refuses to obey rules nobody understands or give in to the monarch’s fear, threatening his control over the kingdom.
Themes of power and fear
The production is designed as a humorous fairytale exploring themes of power, control, imagination, and what happens when an individual resists fear.
The performance is suitable for audiences aged eight and up.
