Fri 2 Oct 13:00 Latin Amsterdam Party
Make and decorate two XL stroopwafels to take away
The stroopwafel is one of the best-known Dutch treats: two thin, crisp waffles joined by a layer of warm, sticky syrup. It is traditionally linked to the city of Gouda, where bakers are said to have first made it from leftover crumbs and syrup around the end of the eighteenth century. In this shared workshop, participants make their own stroopwafels from scratch. The work includes pressing the batter on a hot iron, splitting the waffle while it is still warm and spreading the caramel-like filling. It is a hands-on way to learn about a small but much-loved part of Dutch food culture. The session suits visitors to Amsterdam as well as residents who have eaten plenty of stroopwafels but never made one.
