Amsterdam is updating its housing plan, known as the Amsterdamse Aanpak Volkshuisvesting, and is asking residents for their views.

The plan’s goal is unchanged: enough affordable, good-quality and sustainable homes for everyone in the city.

The city wants input on who new homes should be built for and who should get priority for social housing.

Topics on the table

Residents are also asked how moving within Amsterdam could be made easier.

Another topic is how to deal with damp and mould in homes.

How to take part

Responses can be submitted up to and including 9 November.

The online questionnaire takes about 15 minutes, and selecting ‘Taal’ switches it to English.

Residents can also sign up for a meeting in their district or in Weesp, though these are held in Dutch.

What happens next

The city will gather all responses in a report and use it to revise the housing plan.

Residents will get another chance to comment on the updated plan in early 2027.

If the question of who gets priority for social housing hits close to home, it helps to know how the city’s waiting list actually works before you send in your views.
