Fair Practice in de cultuursector: pay and conditions in the arts
Artists, freelancers, institutions and policymakers come together to talk about fair working conditions in the cultural sector. The Fair Practice Code, the Dutch sector's shared guideline, is built around values such as fair pay, solidarity, diversity, trust, transparency and sustainability. Low pay, unpaid hours and insecure contracts have long been common in the arts, and the debate about how to change that is still very much alive. Talks like this look at what fair practice means day to day for makers and the organisations that hire them. Pakhuis de Zwijger, a former refrigerated warehouse on the IJ, is one of Amsterdam's main venues for public debate on culture and the city.
