Anansi the spider, the clever trickster of West African and Caribbean folklore, takes centre stage in a playful theatre show for children aged three and up. The stories come from the Akan people of Ghana and travelled across the Atlantic with enslaved Africans, taking root in the Caribbean and in Suriname and Curaçao, where Anansi remains a familiar figure. In these tales a small creature outwits much bigger ones through cunning and humour, which young audiences love. The performance is part of the Kinderboekenweek, the annual Dutch celebration of children's books and reading. Plein Theater in Amsterdam Oost regularly programmes theatre for young audiences and families.
