Lockpicking enthusiasts and curious beginners meet at Techinc to practise the craft together. The Open Organisation Of Lockpickers, known as TOOOL, has its roots in the Netherlands and treats lockpicking as a sport and a way of understanding physical security. Its members follow a clear ethical rule: only pick locks you own or have explicit permission to open. Techinc, short for Technologia Incognita, is one of Amsterdam's longest-running hackerspaces, a volunteer-run workshop where people tinker with hardware, software and everything in between. Newcomers can usually learn the basics of how pin tumbler locks work and why some are far easier to defeat than others.
