The Bones of J.R. Jones is the project of New York musician Jonathan Linaberry, who works as a one-man band, playing guitar while keeping the beat with his feet. His music draws on old blues, folk and roots traditions, with a dark, hypnotic edge and a weathered voice that suits songs of longing and restlessness. Over several albums he has built a loyal following in Europe as well as at home, partly thanks to how full and driving his live sound is for a single performer. Fans of stripped-back Americana and raw, rhythmic blues will find plenty to enjoy. Tolhuistuin, in Amsterdam Noord on the north bank of the IJ, offers a relaxed and characterful place to hear him.
