Landesbergen is one of the best-known vibraphonists in Dutch jazz, with a long career rooted in swing and bebop, and he is also an accomplished drummer. His playing is lyrical and fleet, and he has a feel for melody that suits the intimacy of a small group. The piano, bass and drums format gives a vibraphone room to breathe, and it tends to bring out the conversational side of the music. Volkshotel, the creative hotel in a former newspaper building on the edge of Oost, makes a relaxed home for a midweek concert like this.
