Yin yoga with Tibetan singing bowls, poses held for minutes

A slow, quiet 75-minute class of Yin yoga, accompanied by the sound of Tibetan singing bowls. In Yin yoga, mostly seated and lying postures are held for two to five minutes while you breathe slowly and naturally. Long holds like these gently work the connective tissue around the joints instead of the muscles. The style was developed in the West by teachers such as Paulie Zink, Paul Grilley and Sarah Powers, drawing on Taoist ideas and Chinese medicine. The long, resonant tones of the singing bowls help the mind settle while the body softens into each pose. The class suits beginners and experienced practitioners alike, and it is a good counterweight to a busy week or a more active exercise routine.
