Amsterdam is getting ready to host major crowds for WorldPride 2026, and local transport authorities are encouraging residents and visitors to plan their journeys carefully across the city center.
The main festival activities will cluster in the heart of the capital, making public transit the recommended way to reach key event sites.
Metro service changes and extra trips
Travelers arriving from outside the city can access the center directly via NS trains stopping at Amsterdam Centraal station.
Those traveling through station Zuid can take Metro 52 into the center, which offers a quick connection to Vijzelgracht, just a short walk from the main canal routes along Prinsengracht.
However, major track maintenance by municipal transit operator GVB means no metro trains will run between Spaklerweg and Zuid, or between Van der Madeweg and Zuid, throughout the festival period.
To help absorb the extra demand, GVB is running Metro 52 at higher frequencies throughout the summer period.
Ferry delays and driving warnings
People traveling from Amsterdam-Noord are also being urged to take the metro rather than the ferries across the IJ.
With several ferry routes operating at reduced capacity, transport officials anticipate longer wait times and heavy crowding at the water terminals.
For those considering driving, organizers strongly advise against bringing cars into the city center.
To clear room for crowd safety during the Canal Parade on Saturday, August 1, a full parking ban will be active on all canal quays along the parade route from midnight until 11:59 p.m.
Bicycle parking options
Nearby parking garages are expected to reach full capacity early in the day, making driving impractical for most visitors.
Cyclists will also encounter temporary parking bans along specific parts of the canal ring, which will be marked with clear signs.
To manage the volume of bikes, temporary bike racks are being installed near major hubs, while municipal underground parking facilities at Leidseplein and Beursplein will remain open all day.
