Amsterdam has more than 500 registered event venues, from converted warehouses to concert halls.
The right one depends on three things: how many people are coming, what kind of event it is, and how close to Amsterdam Central Station you need to be.
Start with the official venue finder
The city’s own tourism and convention board, iamsterdam.com, runs a free venue finder tool.
It lets you filter by location (city centre, the Schiphol Airport area, or the wider Amsterdam Metropolitan Area), by event type (conference, meeting or social event), by venue type (hotel, conference centre, museum, restaurant, or theatre and concert hall), and by capacity, from small groups up to 5,000-plus.
A broad search with no filters applied returns well over a hundred venues, so narrowing by capacity and type first saves time.
Match capacity to venue
Amsterdam’s largest venues are built for conventions.
RAI Amsterdam holds between 200 and 20,000 people across 72 meeting rooms, about 4.5 km from Amsterdam Central Station.
The Johan Cruijff ArenA scales from 1 to 10,000 guests across 20 meeting rooms, roughly 10.6 km out.
For something mid-sized, NDSM Loods in Amsterdam-Noord takes 100 to 6,000 people, and TAETS Art and Event Park runs 200 to 5,000 across 25 meeting rooms.
Closer to the centre, venues top out smaller: NEMO Science Museum and ijVENUES both range from 1 to 2,000 guests and sit about 1.1 to 1.5 km from Central Station, while the Royal Concertgebouw holds up to 1,975 across four rooms, around 6.2 km out.
For a meeting rather than a full event
Not every booking needs a hall.
A smaller gathering, a client pitch, or a confidential negotiation calls for a different kind of space entirely, and Amsterdam has a set of discreet business meeting places built for exactly that.

Closing dinners and social add-ons
Conferences and away-days often end with a group dinner or a client evening.
For that, a private dining room is usually a better fit than trying to extend the main venue booking, and Amsterdam has a wide range of private dining rooms for every occasion.
For a smaller launch party or team celebration rather than a formal event, it’s worth comparing small celebration venues, several of which take groups well under the minimums that the larger convention venues require.
Requesting a quote
Once a shortlist is ready, most Amsterdam venues, including everything listed on the iamsterdam finder, take bookings through a request-for-proposal (RFP) rather than instant online checkout.
That means submitting dates, headcount and event type, then waiting for the venue to quote availability and price directly.
Larger convention venues in particular expect this RFP step rather than a phone booking, since room configuration and catering are usually quoted together.
Permits for public or large-scale events
Booking a private venue for a conference or meeting does not usually require a permit.
If the event spills into public space, involves a large outdoor gathering, or affects a street or square, a vergunning (permit) from the Gemeente Amsterdam may be required.
That process runs entirely through the municipality, not through any venue or booking platform, so organisers planning anything public-facing should check requirements directly with Gemeente Amsterdam before confirming a date.
The practical shortlist
For a large conference: RAI Amsterdam or the Johan Cruijff ArenA.
For a mid-sized offsite: NDSM Loods, TAETS Art and Event Park, or SugarFactory, which runs 200 to 4,100 guests.
For a compact meeting near the centre: NEMO Science Museum, ijVENUES, or Conference Theater Amsterdam.
For anything smaller than a full venue booking, a private meeting room, coworking space, private dining room or celebration venue will usually be faster to book and cheaper to run.
