After more than three decades in operation, Race Planet Amsterdam in Nieuw-West will permanently close its doors on November 1.

The family-run entertainment center at Herwijk 10 opened in the mid-1990s as an indoor go-kart track and eventually expanded to include bowling lanes, laser tag, and karaoke facilities.

Soaring costs lead to sale

Co-owner Sebastiaan Bleekemolen described the decision to shut down as an emotional one for his family, noting that many long-time visitors who first came as children had eventually brought their own families to the venue.

Maintaining operations at the location had become increasingly difficult in recent years due to sharp cost increases, rising staff expenses, and strict physical limits on upgrading the site for sustainability.

After considering alternative plans for the property, the family opted to sell the land, which will be redeveloped into new office units.

Operations continue elsewhere in the region

Management is discussing options with the venue’s staff, with some employees expected to transfer to other parts of the business.

While the Amsterdam location is closing, Race Planet will continue operating its venue in Delft alongside its driving experiences at the famous racetrack in Zandvoort.

The venue will remain fully operational through November 1, giving local residents a few remaining months to visit before the final closure.
