A KLM flight approaching Schiphol Airport had to abort its landing on Friday afternoon after a loose dog was spotted near the runway.
The Airbus A321neo was arriving from Edinburgh at around 3:30 PM when air traffic control instructed the pilots to perform a go-around for safety reasons.
An airport spokesperson confirmed that the animal was loose on the airside area near the Polderbaan.
Safe Landing After Dog Is Retrieved
The runway was reopened shortly after the initial alert once the dog was returned to its owner.
Before making their second landing attempt, the KLM pilots asked air traffic control if the intruder had been found.
Air traffic control confirmed that the dog was secured outside the fence, and the aircraft landed safely about ten minutes after the go-around.
Separate EasyJet Maneuver
Just before the KLM flight landed, an EasyJet aircraft also executed a go-around while approaching the airport.
An EasyJet spokesperson clarified that their maneuver was routine and had no connection to the dog on the airfield.
The EasyJet flight subsequently landed without further incident.
KLM referred inquiries regarding the incident to Schiphol, and officials have not disclosed how the dog managed to access the secured airfield grounds.
