Trains will continue to run between Amsterdam Centraal, Schiphol Airport, and Hoofddorp during next Wednesday’s nationwide public transit strike. The Airport sprinter will operate four times per hour, while rail services across the rest of the country stop entirely for the day.
The 24-hour strike on Wednesday 9 September halts all other NS passenger trains. Schiphol previously secured train access through the courts during a 2024 strike, when a judge ruled against union FNV and ordered at least four trains per hour to serve the airport.
Dispute over social security cuts
Unions called the strike in response to planned cuts to social security. Although leaked budget plans suggest the cuts may be less severe than initially expected, unions have decided to proceed with the action.
NS chief executive Wouter Koolmees called the walkout terrible. He urged unions, the government, and employers to return to negotiations and reach an agreement.
Regular NS schedules are set to resume on Thursday 10 September. Passengers are advised to keep a close eye on journey information throughout the disruption.
