Amsterdam sisters Sarah and Julia Nauta, aged 28 and 25, are touring the United States for the second time as the duo Sarah Julia.
They are opening for Liberian-American singer-songwriter Mon Rovîa in venues that hold 1,500 to 3,000 people.
The duo built an American following gradually through social media, and last year they toured there as support for British singer-songwriter Paris Paloma.
They have also played with Alanis Morissette and Mumford & Sons, and appeared on Neil Young’s day at BST Hyde Park in London.
Recording their debut album
Their new debut album, The Fear That This Is Real, was recorded in the autumn at a studio near Woodstock in upstate New York.
Producer Phil Weinrobe, who has worked with Adrianne Lenker and Leonard Cohen, had them record guitars and vocals together in one room, without headphones.
The record is about the fear of taking the plunge and how that fear holds people back.
The sisters say older generations enjoy their music too, and they name Joni Mitchell and Cat Stevens among the artists they love.
