NS train tickets will cost an average of 4.7% more in 2027.
Daan Schut, who oversees fares on the NS board, said the extra revenue is needed to buy new trains, cover higher costs and keep investing in facilities.
Off-peak travel will get cheaper, with PrijsTijd Deals offering discounts of up to 80% instead of the current maximum of 60%.
At some point in 2027 these tickets will also go on sale on the day of travel, rather than at least a day in advance as now.
Discounts and fares
Passenger group Rover welcomed both changes, saying they help occasional travellers, who often decide to travel on the day itself.
Rover objected, however, that season-ticket holders cannot use the deals even though their costs have risen for years.
The Railrunner, which lets children travel for €2.50, keeps its price, and the Kids Vrij and Dal Voordeel subscriptions stay free.
The new fares include a previously agreed catch-up for inflation from 2020 to 2023, when ticket prices rose more slowly than inflation.
Rover criticised that increase, arguing it will hold back further growth in train travel.
