High temperatures have hit Amsterdam, with afternoon conditions expected to reach 32 degrees Celsius amid high humidity.
The national weather service KNMI has issued a code yellow warning for the entire country due to the intense heat.
National heat plan activated
The Dutch government has triggered its National Heat Plan to protect vulnerable residents, particularly the elderly and chronically ill.
High humidity levels on Tuesday are making conditions feel even warmer than recorded temperatures, though conditions are expected to ease slightly from Wednesday.
Cooling options across the city
The City of Amsterdam has highlighted more than seventy designated cooling locations throughout the municipality.
These spots include climate-controlled public spaces such as libraries, community centers, museums, churches, and superstores where residents can find shade, tap water, and restrooms.
Free swimming for pass holders
City data shows that 87 percent of Amsterdam residents currently live within one kilometer of a public cooling location.
To help locals keep comfortable, holders of the city low-income pass (Stadspas) are being granted free admission to five municipal outdoor and indoor pools, including the Flevoparkbad and De Mirandabad.
