Talpa refunds viewers after Ajax match stream fails

Media company Talpa announced on Friday that it will compensate all customers who purchased access to the livestream for the match between FC Sion and Ajax.

The decision follows technical problems on the streaming service KIJK, which disrupted the broadcast of the Conference League play-off fixture on Thursday evening.

Because of the malfunction, a portion of Ajax supporters were unable to watch parts of the game on the digital platform.

Apology and full refund for viewers

Talpa confirmed that all paying users will receive the full purchase fee of €4.99 refunded directly to their bank accounts.

“Although a portion of the viewers was able to follow the livestream properly, we naturally find it very annoying that a group of users did not have direct access to the stream,” a company spokesperson stated.

The spokesperson added that the technical fault was completely at odds with the quality and experience the broadcaster seeks to offer its viewers.

The media company stated that the technical issues were resolved immediately once they were noticed during the live transmission.

Talpa added that it will work to make sure viewers can rely on high service standards during future live event broadcasts.

Bank processing and match outcome

Talpa noted that the exact timing for the money to appear in bank accounts may vary depending on the individual customer’s bank.

The broadcaster declined to disclose how many people paid for the stream or how many users experienced access problems during the evening.

On the pitch in Switzerland, Ajax went on to secure a 2-4 away victory against FC Sion in the Conference League play-off contest.
