These are the official school holiday dates for Amsterdam for the 2026–2027 academic year.
For school holidays the Netherlands is split into three regions -- North, Central and South -- and Amsterdam falls in region North (Noord).
The dates below are the North ones.
Amsterdam school holidays 2026–2027
- Autumn holiday (herfstvakantie): 10 – 18 October 2026
- Christmas holiday (kerstvakantie): 19 December 2026 – 3 January 2027
- Spring holiday (voorjaarsvakantie): 20 – 28 February 2027
- May holiday (meivakantie): 24 April – 2 May 2027
- Summer holiday (zomervakantie): 10 July – 22 August 2027
Each range runs inclusive of both dates, so the first day back after the summer is Monday 23 August 2027.
Which dates can move
The summer holiday is the one deliberately staggered across the three regions, to stop the whole country travelling in the same fortnight.
In 2027 North goes first, from 10 July; Central starts a week later on 17 July; South starts on 24 July and does not go back until 6 September.
The autumn and spring dates are issued by the Ministry of Education as advice rather than law.
An individual school may shift them with its board’s approval, provided it sets the change out in its school plan in advance.
Most Amsterdam schools follow the regional dates above, but check your own school’s calendar before you book anything.
Booking around them
Because the whole of region North breaks in the same weeks, flights and holiday parks around these dates fill up and get more expensive early.
The compensation is that North gets the earliest summer slot in 2027, so the first half of July is cheaper for Amsterdam families than it is for the south of the country.
