How we calculate this
  • The card: EUR 75 for adults aged 19 and over, EUR 39 for children and teenagers up to and including 18, valid for one year (museum.nl). Renewal after a year costs EUR 69 (museum.nl FAQ).
  • Supplements: where card holders still pay something (H'ART Museum EUR 7 for its current exhibition, Anne Frank Huis EUR 1 booking fee), the calculator adds it to the card side.
  • Time slots: most museums need no reservation, but the Rijksmuseum, the Van Gogh Museum, NEMO and the Anne Frank Huis ask card holders to book a start time online.
  • A temporary card bought at a museum desk works at once for 31 days and up to 5 visits, until you register it.

Frequently asked questions

How much does the Museumkaart cost in 2026?
The Museumkaart costs EUR 75 for adults aged 19 and over and EUR 39 for everyone up to and including 18, according to museum.nl. It is valid for one year, and renewing it costs EUR 69.

How many museum visits before the Museumkaart pays off in Amsterdam?
At the average adult ticket price of the 32 museums we checked, EUR 17.81, the adult card pays for itself on the fifth visit. Visiting only the Rijksmuseum, the Van Gogh Museum and the Stedelijk already costs EUR 72.50, so a fourth museum puts you ahead.

Can I use the Museumkaart at the Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh Museum?
Yes, both accept it. You must still book a start time online: the Van Gogh Museum gives card holders a free timed ticket, and the Rijksmuseum asks every visitor to book a start time.

Which Amsterdam museums do not accept the Museumkaart?
Museums missing from museum.nl's list do not take it, including Moco, Nxt Museum, Museum Vrolik, the Kattenkabinet and the Hortus Botanicus. Some museums that do accept it charge card holders a supplement for special exhibitions, such as H'ART Museum (EUR 7 for its current exhibition).

Can tourists buy a Museumkaart?
Yes. A card bought at a museum desk is a temporary card, valid straight away for 31 days and a maximum of 5 visits, until you register it, as museum.nl explains in its FAQ.
