    Frequently asked questions

How many public toilets are there in Amsterdam?
On 25 October 2026 the Gemeente Amsterdam open dataset listed 106 public toilets and urinals with a map location, plus 2 entries without one. Of the 106, 54 are closed toilets anyone can use (27 of them wheelchair accessible) and 52 are open-air urinals for men. Toilets in cafes, museums, stations and shops are not part of the city's list.

Are public toilets free in Amsterdam?
Most locations in the city's dataset are listed with no charge per use. On 25 October 2026 three toilets were listed at EUR 0.50, all in the city centre, including the wheelchair accessible toilet on the Koningsplein. Tap a marker on the map to see the price the city gives for that spot.

Where can women find a public toilet in Amsterdam?
Untick the three urinal types on the map: what remains are closed toilet cabins and car park toilets, which anyone can use. On 25 October 2026 the city listed 54 of these, 27 of them wheelchair accessible.

Are any public toilets in Amsterdam open at night?
On 25 October 2026, 53 locations in the city's dataset were listed as open 24 hours, but only 15 of those were closed toilets; the rest are urinals for men. The pop-up urinals in nightlife areas rise out of the pavement from Thursday to Sunday, 18.00 to 7.00, according to the city.

Why are there so few public toilets in Amsterdam?
The city relies heavily on toilets in cafes, shops and public buildings rather than street toilets, and most open-air facilities are urinals for men. We explain the history and the debate in our article on why there are so few public toilets in the Netherlands.
