Drivers heading into central Amsterdam faced delays on Monday after a technical fault forced authorities to close the Spaarndammertunnel toward the city center for several hours.
The closure was triggered by a malfunction in the tunnel’s public address system, which traffic controllers rely on to communicate with motorists in the event of an emergency or incident inside the passage.

Control center staff noticed the technical failure around 10:45 AM, leading officials to shut the city-bound lane to ensure traffic safety.
Technicians worked on the issue throughout the day, and the Municipality of Amsterdam confirmed that the system was repaired and fully operational again by around 4:00 PM.
Traffic traveling in the opposite direction toward West was unaffected by the disruption, as the westbound lane remained open to vehicle traffic while repairs were carried out.
