A local venue in Amsterdam Oost that hosts non-binding, symbolic weddings is launching its new season alongside an updated website. Trouwen voor 1 Dag, based at the Love Chapel on Tweede Oosterparkstraat, offers personalized wedding ceremonies without legal obligations or official documentation.

The concept originally began in 2003 as a spontaneous event on Queen’s Day when two theater students staged a joke proposal for a friend.

Over the past two decades, it has developed into a permanent business run by owner Julia van de Beek, who hosts ceremonies in Oost and at festivals throughout the Netherlands.

No legal paperwork required

Because the weddings carry no legal status, participants do not need to deal with municipal registration or civil contracts.

Couples can use the venue to celebrate a milestone, while others use the service for vow renewals, friendship celebrations, bachelor parties, or symbolic ceremonies involving family members and pets.

The physical chapel in Oost keeps a wardrobe of more than 100 wedding dresses and outfits to allow participants to dress up for their ceremonies.

While smaller personal services take place at the permanent venue, large-scale pop-up versions are frequently hosted at outdoor events across the country, where up to 100 couples can participate in a single afternoon.

Relaunch for the new season

The business is updating its online platform to help visitors browse available event packages and reserve time slots directly. The new site aims to make scheduling easier for private bookings in the neighborhood chapel as well as for larger corporate and festival event organizers.

Alongside temporary festival locations, the fixed space in Amsterdam Oost remains open for local bookings. Interested participants can explore options and make reservations directly through the company’s official site at Trouwen voor 1 Dag.
