The intersection connecting Elandsgracht and Marnixstraat in Amsterdam is one of the most accident-prone spots for cyclists in Noord-Holland.
Between 2021 and 2025, thirty cycling accidents were recorded at the junction, placing it third in the province for bicycle collisions.
Only two locations recorded more incidents: a pair of roundabouts along Burgemeester Kasteleinweg in Aalsmeer with 36 accidents, and a roundabout on Hertog Aalbrechtweg in Alkmaar with 34.
Regional collision numbers
Noord-Holland ranks as the second most dangerous province for cyclists, with 14.6 cycling accidents per 10,000 residents each year.
Zuid-Holland recorded a slightly higher rate at 16.1 incidents per 10,000 residents, while Overijssel followed in third place with 12.
In Aalsmeer, cycling accidents surged by 175% between 2019 and 2025, marking the largest increase among all Dutch municipalities.
National rise in youth injuries
Across the Netherlands, cycling collisions rose by 28.4% to nearly 21,600 in 2025, compared to 16,800 in 2019.
Insurance data indicates that teenagers account for a significant share of these incidents, with emergency room injuries among 12 to 17-year-olds rising by 53% over the past decade.
Experts attribute much of this growth in youth accident rates to the expanding popularity of electric bicycles.
