A party at Club Up on the weekend of 26 and 27 September set out to ‘reclaim’ Leidseplein.
The organisers think the square should once again belong to all Amsterdammers, and they said so plainly: “It’s time we take Leidseplein back as a nightlife district for everyone!”
The night, called Skinnyjeans, started as an Instagram page, @skinnyjeans.love, and the dress code came from the name: skinny jeans.
The club’s programme says the aim is to bring the dance floor back to the city centre.
It wants an affordable place where locals and visitors can meet and relive the nights out of their youth.
The music plays on Amsterdam’s ties to EDM and looks back to the early 2010s.
It mixes the nostalgic electropop of those years with a wink at hipster culture.
Guests were told to come as they are and were asked whether they would ever wear skinny jeans again.
The organisers promoted the party with the hashtags #reclaimleidse and #liveloveleidse.
