The Cruise Inn, a rock ‘n’ roll club that draws fans from across the Netherlands, is building a new home in a former Pantar office on Zeeburgereiland.

After 26 years, the club had to leave the Zuiderzeeweg.

The new venue, next to Holland Sport near the Bob Haarmslaan tram stop, has its own parking.

Volunteers rebuild without city money

Fifteen volunteers are doing the renovation themselves, with no money or help from the city.

They have painted the ceilings black and added a red bar, a DJ booth, extra toilets and an accessible toilet.

Chairman Simon says the club has been part of Amsterdam’s culture for forty years but gets only advice from the city.

Moving the building cost a third of the club’s savings, he adds, and the site had no gas, water or electricity.

Opening on Saturdays first

The club expects to stay at least three years, and hopes for longer.

It aims to open around mid-October, on Saturdays only at first, with concerts, dance nights, DJ nights and dance lessons.

Many students live nearby, and Simon hopes they will drop in too.
