Amsterdam plans to lower the number of nights residents of Helmersbuurt may rent out their homes to tourists.
Under the proposal, the cap would fall to 15 nights a year, half the current 30, from 1 January 2027.
Anyone who wants to respond to the proposal can do so until 8 November 2026.
Tourism pressure in the neighbourhood
The city’s figures for 2025 show that Helmersbuurt has high levels of both tourism and holiday rentals.
At least three in ten residents say they are bothered by tourists staying in homes nearby.
The city says a stricter limit would ease that nuisance and help keep Helmersbuurt a good place for residents to live.
Eight neighbourhoods already have the lower limit
The 15-night limit already applies in eight other Amsterdam neighbourhoods.
If the plan goes ahead, Helmersbuurt would become the ninth neighbourhood with the stricter cap.
Helmersbuurt residents who rent their homes to tourists, or want to respond to the proposal, can first get to grips with the city’s holiday rental rules.
