Mandy’s Bloemenshop, the Amstelveenseweg flower kiosk that burned down on the evening of Monday 5 October, hopes to reopen in about two weeks.

The family business has been on the street for 47 years.

A short circuit in the kiosk’s refrigeration unit started the fire.

Firefighters quickly brought it under control, but the shop was damaged beyond repair.

Uninsured damage and a fundraiser

The shop was not insured against fire damage.

The family has since raised €30,000 through a GoFundMe page and hopes to reach €80,000, which would cover almost all of the damage.

Former Ajax player Hakim Ziyech, a customer of the shop for years, shared the fundraiser on Instagram.

Co-owner Kim said the amount raised so far is already wonderful.

Permit for a new kiosk

On Friday 9 October, after days of waiting, a city official called to say the family could build a new kiosk where the old one stood.

Kim said they have already found a kiosk that is almost ready to be put in place, although that step needs a separate permit.

She expects that installing it along one of Amsterdam’s busiest streets will be tricky.
