Thuisbezorgd and Uber Eats now show customers upfront the compulsory extra costs on an order, following talks with the Dutch consumer group Consumentenbond.
Millions of customers will also receive a discount voucher from the two delivery platforms as compensation.
The consumer group found that on both apps, compulsory charges such as service fees and surcharges for small orders and packaging only appeared during checkout or right at the end.
Its researchers tracked Thuisbezorgd’s ordering process and prices closely for months.
They found customers were often hit with €2 to €4 in hidden costs.
The group also said Thuisbezorgd advertised large discounts while the actual price went up considerably.
Platforms change how costs appear
Uber Eats said it aims to keep its app clear and simple and that the talks helped shape the change in how extra fees are shown.
Thuisbezorgd said it had made its information on service fees and promotions clearer.
Both say the vouchers will be available soon, but their value has not been announced.
Consumentenbond director Sandra Molenaar said she was pleased the talks had led to concrete improvements for consumers and to compensation.
