Amsterdam-founded digital bank bunq has launched local Belgian account numbers and integrated the new European payment service Wero into its mobile app.
The move allows customers using the platform in Belgium and France to send and receive money directly through the app using the new payment network.
By offering Belgian account numbers, the bank aims to attract international residents and expatriates who often face barriers when opening accounts with traditional financial institutions.
Expanding across European borders
Users opening accounts through the platform can set up to 25 sub-accounts, each with its own individual bank account number, without visiting a physical branch.
The integration of Wero marks a broader shift in European retail banking, as the platform replaces older regional payment systems with a unified European standard.
Bunq plans to roll out Wero integration to users in additional European countries over the coming months.
New features for digital users
The update also brings savings options to Belgian clients, offering weekly interest payouts on balances up to 100,000 euros.
Headquartered in Amsterdam, the neobank has been expanding its footprint across Europe while pursuing further regulatory approvals internationally.
The company recently submitted an application for a banking license in the United States as part of its ongoing global growth plans.
