More than 85,000 walkers, cyclists, and runners are set to take part in four events connecting Amsterdam and Zaandam this coming weekend on 19 and 20 September. Organiser Le Champion is encouraging local residents and spectators along the routes to turn out and cheer on the athletes.

The weekend starts early on Saturday morning at Dam Square in Amsterdam with the 22nd edition of the Dam tot Dam walking tour in support of Pink Ribbon.

Participants walking 20, 27, and 42 kilometres will start outside the Royal Palace, while those on five- and 10-kilometre routes start from the Dam tot Dam Park in Zaandam.

A total of 15,000 walkers will finish in Zaandam, where the funds raised through walker sponsorships for breast cancer prevention and treatment research will be announced during an afternoon gathering.

Night running through Zaandam

Once dusk falls on Saturday, 15,000 runners will tackle the Damloop by night over a five-mile course through Zaandam. The race starts on Vermiljoenweg and winds through the city with light shows and music before finishing at the Burcht.

Mini Dam tot Damloop events for younger participants will also take place in both Zaandam and Amsterdam-Noord over the course of Saturday and Sunday.

Cycling classic and the 40th main run

Sunday morning begins with an expected 4,000 cyclists joining the Saxo Dam tot Dam FietsClassic. Riders depart on courses spanning from 40 to 200 kilometres through the IJtunnel and past North Holland locations ending in “Dam,” including Schoorldam, Monnickendam, and Volendam.

The cycling event includes a new Ladies Ride on Sunday morning, leaving Dam Square at 07:45 over distances of 40 and 60 kilometres. All cycling courses conclude outside the Royal Palace in Amsterdam.

The weekend concludes on Sunday with the sold-out NN Dam tot Damloop, featuring roughly 46,000 runners marking the 40th anniversary of the 10-mile race.

Participants run from Amsterdam through the IJtunnel to Zaandam, with over fifty entertainment stages set along the path to the finish at the Burcht.

Throughout both days, the Burgemeester in ’t Veldpark in Zaandam will operate as the Dam tot Dam Park festival site with a live music stage, opening from 08:00 to 00:30 on Saturday and 08:00 to 18:00 on Sunday.
