Amsterdam music venue Melkweg hosted a quieter concert on Tuesday evening to help protect attendees from hearing damage.
Singer Blaudzun played a set at lower volume as part of an initiative organized by Oormerk, a group aiming to avoid hearing damage at live shows.
Oormerk founder Chris van Kreij said the experiment came from wanting to hear live music properly without wearing earplugs, which can reduce sound quality.
Changes on stage
For the performance, guitar amplifiers were moved behind the restrooms to reduce stage noise.
The concert reached an average level of around 94 to 95 dBA over a 15-minute measurement period.
Sound engineer Mike Manders said that sound level should in theory let visitors listen without using hearing protection.
