De Hallen is giving €10,000 this year to seven neighbourhood initiatives in Amsterdam West through Mensen Maken Amsterdam.
One of them is De Fanclub, which starts on Monday 2 November at buurtkamer Corantijn, Corantijnstraat 25, in De Baarsjes.
Eight to 14 neighbours sit in a circle with tea and cake and take turns sharing what is on their mind or what they are proud of.
The others listen without giving advice or comment, then the whole circle applauds; anyone who would rather pass gets cheered too.
The free sessions run from 19:30 to 21:30 on 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30 November and 7 and 14 December, and there is no need to register.
On Monday 21 December the doors open from 15:00 to 17:00, followed by Christmas drinks for the neighbourhood.
The organisers want to bring neighbours closer together, whatever language they speak.
The other projects are Jeltjes Muzieksalon on Sundays, a punch card for young people to eat out together, lanterns and soup in Bilderdijkpark, a Christmas dinner at Buurthuis De Havelaar and the Amsterdamse Jeugdtheater Collectief.
Neighbourhood party De Kaarten van Mercator, held on 4 October, also got support.
Feeling inspired to help your neighbours? There are plenty of ways to volunteer around the city.
