De Nederlandsche Bank says Harry Styles’ ten concerts at the Johan Cruijff Arena pushed up Dutch inflation in May.
Eight of the shows took place that month, drawing an estimated 450,000 to 500,000 fans, including 150,000 to 200,000 from abroad.
Foreign visitors were expected to spend €300 to €400 each on food, drink and accommodation, not counting tickets and travel.
Hotels and tickets saw steep rises
Concert tickets cost 7.4% more in May than a year earlier, more than double the long-term average annual rise of 3.3%.
Hotel prices rose by almost 22%, and 12 percentage points of that came from January’s VAT increase on hotel stays from 9% to 21%.
The rest is put down to concert demand, though fuel, air fares, electricity and gas were the main drivers of inflation overall.
Inflation reached 3.5% in May, up from 2.8% in April, before falling to 2.4% in June.
Hotels added 0.38 percentage points to May inflation, their biggest contribution since 2011.
An estimate of the concerts’ boost to the Dutch economy is expected by the end of 2026.
