Railway infrastructure manager ProRail and contractor Dura Vermeer are putting tracks back in place on the west side of Amsterdam Centraal this August.
The current work follows months of background preparation around the station area.
Crews have completed sections of the new underground bicycle parking facility, rebuilt a rail bridge over the Oostertoegang waterway, widened platforms alongside tracks 11 and 13, and rerouted extensive underground wiring and piping.
Reconnecting western tracks
Workers are now laying fresh tracks, adjusting overhead power lines, and updated the signaling system to reconnect the lines back into the national railway network.
If the work remains on schedule, track 11a is expected to reopen for passenger trains in October.
Major platform renovation ahead
Getting track 11a back into service is a key step for the overall station redevelopment. It allows passenger trains to bypass the island platform between tracks 13 and 14 entirely.
Once train traffic is shifted away, crews will begin completely rebuilding that platform. The renovation will run through the rest of 2026 into early 2027 and will include replacing the platform structures and rebuilding the staircases.
The long-term project aims to increase capacity across the station, allowing Amsterdam Centraal to handle more trains and higher passenger numbers in the coming years.
