Rokin closed to cyclists leaving the centre for another month

The cycle path by the Dam is shut to cyclists leaving the centre while tram tracks are replaced. Trams 4 and 14 will also be cut short in November.

Amsterdam

Cyclists will not be able to use the Rokin to leave the city centre for roughly the next month.

The cycle path by the Dam was shut at the start of this week, and traffic controllers stand there during the day to send riders elsewhere.

A detour via the Nieuwezijds Voorburgwal and the Spui is one option.

New tram track

The closure is needed because public transport operator GVB is laying new tram track between the Rokin’s junction with the Dam and roughly the Papenbroekssteeg.

Trams can still use that stretch for the rest of October and on 1 November.

From 2 November up to and including 21 November, however, trams 4 and 14 will turn back at the Vijzelgracht.

No change for drivers

Cars have been barred from leaving the centre along the Rokin for years, so motorists will not notice the closure.

Cyclists and drivers heading into the centre can still use the Rokin as normal.

With trams 4 and 14 turning back at the Vijzelgracht for part of November, our guide to getting around by tram and bus may come in handy.
