The Dutch Military Police have arrested two 24-year-old men from Amsterdam following the theft of a massive shipment of smartphones at Schiphol Airport.
The theft occurred on Thursday, June 18, when suspects targeted a truck transporting cargo to and from the aviation hub.
Investigators estimate the total value of the stolen devices at roughly 5 million euros.
Inside information
A third suspect, a 39-year-old man from Zoetermeer, was also taken into custody during the investigation last month.
Authorities believe at least one of the arrested individuals worked for a freight transport company operating at Schiphol Airport.
Investigators allege that this employee leaked sensitive logistics information to a larger criminal network to facilitate the heist.
Ongoing investigation
The Public Prosecution Service is continuing its investigation into the organized crime group behind the operation.
Law enforcement officials noted that the case remains open and additional arrests have not been ruled out as detectives trace the supply chain.
Cargo security at the airport has faced heightened scrutiny in recent years following several high-value thefts involving logistics personnel.
