Droppie opens fifth recycling shop in Amsterdam

Recycling company Droppie is set to open a new store at Osdorpplein 404 on 10 September.

The location will be the company’s fifth branch in Amsterdam and its 15th across the Netherlands.

The opening comes after the business raised 4.2 million euros in growth capital in June, with longer-term plans to expand to 70 stores nationwide.

Drop-off and rewards system

Droppie allows visitors to hand in several types of household waste in one place, including textiles, small electronic devices, plastic packaging, and deposit bottles or cans.

Items are registered using an automated system called the Dropbot, which lets users collect rewards via a smartphone app or donate their balance.

The Osdorpplein site is the third store set up under a partnership with deposit organisation Statiegeld Nederland.

Staffing and company background

For the new branch, the company has partnered with Milieuwerk to provide jobs for people who face barriers entering the labour market.

Founded three years ago by Natascha Hermsen and Stef Traa, the business also operates branches in The Hague, Utrecht, and Rotterdam.

According to the company, the network currently serves nearly 80,000 households.
