Residents in the Helmersbuurt may soon see their holiday rental allowance cut to 15 nights per year. The proposed change halves the current limit of 30 nights.
The municipality says the restriction is necessary because of high tourist numbers in the neighbourhood.
This would make the Helmersbuurt the first area in West to have its annual holiday rental limit reduced.
Thresholds crossed in West
A similar 15-night limit has been in place across eight neighbourhoods in Centrum and De Pijp since April.
City research identified the Helmersbuurt alongside the Kinkerbuurt and Vondelparkbuurt as areas experiencing significant nuisance from tourism as early as 2019.
According to the municipality, three key limits were exceeded last year to justify the intervention. At least 30% of residents reported nuisance from tourists staying in homes, holiday rentals were relatively widespread, and overall tourism pressure was too high.
The draft decision is open for public inspection from 28 September to 8 November. Stadsdeel West has also been asked to provide advice on the plan.
