What the Lindengracht market is

The Lindengracht market is a general goods market held every Saturday in the Jordaan.

It stretches for more than 900 metres along the Lindengracht, with 224 stalls on a Saturday.

The market was first held in 1894 and is still a busy one.

Opening hours

The market runs on Saturday from 09:00 to 17:00.

There is no Lindengracht market on other days of the week.

Where it is and how to get there

The stalls line the Lindengracht, postcode 1015 KL, in the northern part of the Jordaan.

The street ends at the Noordermarkt, which is about 1.3 kilometres from Centraal Station, a walk of around 20 minutes through the Haarlemmerbuurt.

Buses 18 and 21 from the IJ side of Centraal Station stop at Haarlemmerplein, about 15 minutes on foot from the market.

What to buy

As a general goods market, it has a wide variety of products on its stalls.

It sits in the heart of the Jordaan, one of the classic working-class neighbourhoods of Amsterdam.

Tips for your visit

Saturday is the day to see three markets at once: the Lindengracht market, the organic market on the Noordermarkt, and the antiques and curiosities stalls next to it.

Read our Noordermarkt guide for the Saturday organic market and the Monday flea market.

For the rest of the neighbourhood, see our Amsterdam neighbourhood guide and the directory of bakeries.

More markets nearby

On Monday mornings, the Westerstraat market takes over the next street along.

Also on Saturdays: the organic farmers’ market on the Nieuwmarkt and the ZuiderMRKT in Zuid.
