Amsterdam Cupcake Company reopens shop for one day

The Amsterdam Cupcake Company will temporarily reopen its physical shop on Saturday 29 August to celebrate 15 years in business.

Owner Faryel Bhailal founded the business in 2011 at Marco Polostraat 209 in De Baarsjes. It was among the first bakeries in the city to specialise in cupcakes and handmade confectionery.

The shopfront closed in 2022 to reduce costs following the coronavirus pandemic. The company shifted sales entirely online while keeping its production kitchen at the same location.

One morning of walk-in sales

The business recently expanded the Marco Polostraat premises to add storage and production space, though the retail doors remained shut to regular foot traffic.

On Saturday, the storefront will open from 09.00 to 13.00. Customers will be able to buy cupcakes, cakes, and other baked goods while supplies last.

Visitors can also view the bakery workspace and speak with the baking staff.

Bhailal said the temporary opening is intended as a thank you to customers who supported the business over the past 15 years.
