Ten restaurants in the Netherlands were named new Bib Gourmand winners on Monday 28 September. The announcement came ahead of the Michelin Guide Netherlands ceremony in Maastricht on Monday 5 October.

The Bib Gourmand goes to restaurants that serve high-quality food at good value. Michelin stars are different: they reward restaurants that aim for perfection, with identical high-end plates and a flawless experience for the customer.

The three Amsterdam winners

FuLu Mandarijn on the Rokin, in the city centre, is known for Sichuan cooking from the Chinese province of the same name. Michelin wrote that diners can expect “aromatic spices and rich umami notes, primarily drawn from Sichuan cuisine.”

Utage Sake Bar on the Lekstraat in Amsterdam-Zuid serves Japanese food. Michelin praised its “playful izakaya-style cooking paired with exceptional sakes.”

The third is Boon & De Koot on the Barentszstraat in Amsterdam-West. Michelin described the vintage-style bistro as showing “the power of simplicity, focusing on vegetables and effective flavor combinations.”

Amstelveen and the rest of the country

Bistro Toost, a dark and stylish restaurant in Oude Dorp, the historic centre of Amstelveen, was also recognised. The guide praised its “recognizable flavors, ingredients that speak for themselves, and a sense of generosity that brings genuine happiness.”

In Zwolle, Wijn Boer comes from the family business started by the late Jonnie Boer and his wife, Thérèse Boer. Their restaurant De Librije kept its three Michelin stars after Jonnie Boer died suddenly last April, aged 60. Nelson Tanate is now head chef at De Librije.

Ramen Kitanoya in The Hague was praised for “an authentic Tokyo vibe” and “fantastic gyoza and chewy noodles.” Two French restaurants also won the award: Brasserie Bruis in Haarlem and Bistro Luux in Weert.

ORA, Taverna & Bar in Breda was described as a “Mediterranean feast emphasizing Greek flavors.” At Dokjard in Groningen, Michelin said, the chefs “know no boundaries” and expressive flavours are their guiding principle.
