Drivers coming into Amsterdam from the east get their road back this morning.

The A1 reopens at 5:00 on Monday between the Eemnes and Muiderberg junctions, in the direction of the city.

The stretch had been closed since early July for major maintenance.

What was done

Crews replaced worn asphalt and road joints along the closed section.

Bridges and viaducts on the route were repaired at the same time.

Bundling the work into one long closure spared drivers years of shorter, repeated ones.

The end of the detour summer

For weeks, traffic toward Amsterdam was pushed onto detours that could add up to an hour at busy times.

Commuters returning from summer break on Monday will be the first to use the renewed surface.

The other direction of the A1 stayed open throughout the works.
